| Ed Brown Gives Interview From Prison WMUR ELKTON, OHIO -- Ed Brown talked to a supporter from prison, and the supporter tape-recorded the phone conversation.
Ed and Elaine Brown were arrested by U.S. Marshals this month. The U.S. Marshals posed as supporters of the tax evaders.
The Browns had been in a standoff with authorities since their sentencing in April on tax evasion charges. They insisted that there's no law forcing them to pay taxes and refused to surrender -- saying they would not come out alive. Shaun Allen Karnish from Chicago unknowingly led those undercover marshals to the Brown's home. Karnish said he reached Ed Brown in prison by saying he was working with Brown's attornies. Brown talked about the night he was arrested. "Some little cowardly U.S. marshal...some little punk kid, he tasered me," said Brown. Brown also said he was gassed at a detention center in Rhode Island, and was placed on suicide watch and put in what he calls a deprivation tank. The U.S. Marshal's and the Federal Correctional Institute in Elkton, Ohio, had no comment on the conversation. The Browns will likely face additional charges related to the weapons found in the house, according to authorities. They were convicted in January of scheming to avoid federal income taxes by hiding $1.9 million of income between 1996 and 2003.
