Comment: Isn't Iraq so much more serene without Al-Zarqawi?

At least five bombs, most them packed in vehicles, detonated in and around Baghdad on Thursday, killing at least 40 people and injuring dozens, authorities said.

In the latest attack, a parked car exploded at the outdoor Amin market in the capital, killing at least 10 people and wounding 10 others, police said. The explosion occurred about 9 p.m. in the al-Shaab neighborhood, a mixed Sunni Arab-Shiite neighborhood in eastern Baghdad, Lt. Thaer Mahmoud said.

It was the second car bomb in the same area. The first killed five people and injured more than a dozen, police said.

Earlier, a car bomb in north Baghdad killed six people and injured 15, police said. That occurred in the Kazimiyah suburb and apparently targeted a group of day laborers, police Capt. Mohammed Al-Waili said.

Two bombs also hit a market and a police patrol in separate morning attacks in Baghdad, killing at least 19 people and wounding more than 40.
