Israel's new warplane to spy on Iran

Israel says it will reveal a military aircraft capable of spying on Iran in reaction to Tehran's recent military exercise in the Persian Gulf.

Israel Aerospace Industries plans an in-house exhibit Thursday of its Eitam airplane, which is said to be equipped with advanced intelligence-gathering systems, AP reported.

The plane, first unveiled a year ago, is supposed to provide the Israeli Air Force with long-range capabilities.

Israel says the Eitam is an essential operational tool that would be utilized to create aerial pictures while at the same time serving as a warning system for incoming aerial threats.

On Wednesday, Iran conducted a military exercise dubbed The Great Prophet III in which it test fired long and medium-range missiles.

The military maneuver was in response to threats from Israel that it would attack Iran's nuclear sites if Tehran does not stop uranium enrichment.

Iran says Wednesday's exercise was aimed exclusively at defending its soil, and stressed that its military might would not be used against other countries in the region.

Tehran has stressed it pursues nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, rejecting outright any allegations that it is seeking nuclear weapons.
