New Fire At Devastated Taj Hotel

A fire has broken out at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai, one of the buildings at the centre of last month's terrorist attack on the city.

The blaze affected a restaurant on the 21st floor of the new wing of the historic hotel.

A witness alerted police and fire officials who immediately rushed to the scene.

"I had come to see the Taj Hotel. Then I saw smoke coming out from the last floor and called up to inform the police, then I informed the fire brigade," Sureesh Banerjee said.

"They came within 15-20 minutes. The fire was very huge."

The fire was brought under control and there were no casualties, a fire official said.

Mr Banerjee went to the hotel to see the extent of the devastation caused by sporadic fires and gun battles.
