8-Year-Olds Recruited For Street Patrols
London Mirror | August 24 2004
CHILDREN as young as eight are being recruited on rundown estates to help fight crime.
Dressed in baseball caps and vests, the youngsters will go on patrol to combat anti-social behaviour.
Nearly 50 children, aged eight to 14, have already enrolled as junior wardens in Oxford to patrol the notorious Blackbird Leys and Rose Hill areas.
They have already scoured the area for cars with out-of-date tax discs.
Rebecca Winfield, 11, of Rose Hill, said: "I want to help the community."
Adults wardens insist they are not in danger.
