NKorea says ready to scrap nuclear weapons: US

AFP | October 31 2006

North Korea reaffirmed a pledge it made last year to scrap its nuclear weapons in return for concessions during talks here Tuesday, US negotiator Christopher Hill said.

Speaking after a meeting with his North Korean and Chinese counterparts to six-party talks, Hill said Pyongyang had promised to abide by the pledge made at the forum in September 2005.

"We all reaffirmed, including the North Koreans, our commitment to the September statement and the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula," he told reporters.
