Getting Ugly: Economist Says Hoard Gold & Scotch
Respected economist John Williams, editor of ShadowStats.com, a popular
website that tracks real inflation figures, is advising that people
hoard physical gold as well as food items in bulk so that they have
some means with which to barter as the economic crisis turns ugly.
New
Navy-funded Report Warns of War Robots Going “Terminator”
A new Navy-funded report warns against a hasty deployment of war robots,
and urges programmers to include ethics subroutines — a warrior
code of sorts. The alternative they say, is the possibility of a robotic
atrocity, akin to the Terminator or other sci-fi movies.

It’s only a matter of time before someone “snaps”

Errors
in publicly presented data - Worth blogging about?
In the prior thread I raised a question of why there was a large downward
jump in sea ice extent on the graph presented by NSIDC’s Artic
Sea Ice News page. The image below was the reason, dozens of people
called my attention to it in emails and comments overnight because in
the space of a weekend, a million-plus square kilometers of Arctic sea
ice went missing. Note the blue line.
Jim
Rogers: Abolish The IMF & World Bank
In an interview with Sir David Frost on Al Jazeera television, veteran
investor Jim Rogers pinned the blame for the economic crisis squarely
at the feet of the Federal Reserve, and said that the World Bank and
the IMF should be abolished, not given more power, if a recovery is
to be made.
Ron
Paul: Government Spending Driving Us Into Depression

in the first instance.
Dollar
and Gold Move Sharply Higher on Panic
The next resistance for gold to overcome is $988 and then $1032.
Shorter term traders, think about protecting profits. Longer term
gold bugs, it might be better to look away for awhile, or just squint
and pray that the thing clears $1032 and bases up there.
The
Global Ditch: Is Eastern Europe Primed to Explode?
Eastern Europe is about to blow. If it does, it could take much
of the EU with it. It’s an emergency situation but there are
no easy solutions. The IMF doesn’t have the resources for
a bailout of this size and the recession is spreading faster than
relief efforts can be organized.

The Palestinian Authority is calling for an international investigation
of the weapons used by Israel during its three-week assault on Gaza.
There are claims so-called DIME bombs were dropped from drone aircraft.
This kind of bomb is designed to produce an intense explosion in

The
Left in Power
The theme of my book The Left, The Right, and The State is that
both sides of the political aisle represent a grave threat to liberty,
though each of a different sort. It is like two people tugging at
a turkey’s wishbone. The turkey is liberty and you are the
bone.
