45 percent of the respondents believed the recent increase in US troops
did not make any difference in situation in Iraq, while only 17 percent
said the troop surge had led to major improvements, the Opinion Dynamics'
poll released by Fox News and published in Angus Reid Website indicates.
42 percent of the respondents believe the US forces should leave Iraq within a year, as laid out in a report by US commander in Iraq General David Petraeus, while 22 percent say the troops must immediately leave the country.
24 percent said the US should withdraw its troops when the Iraqi forces are able to take control of the situation and only two percent believe more troops should be sent. 10 percent of the respondents refused to comment. Some 900 people took part in the opinion poll, which was conducted on August 21 and 22 by phone.
