Larijani: Big failure if US attacks Iran Press
TV Top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani warns US military action against Iran will put the final nail in the coffin of the neo-conservatives. "The Iranian president has stated that Iran's nuclear file has been closed, but are Iran's problems with the West concluded?" the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council asked rhetorically of Iranian and foreign reporters. Questioned about the drums of war which are still heard in the Western media, Larijani said, "If the US makes such a mistake (waging war against Iran), it would put the final nail in the coffin of the conservatives and neo-conservatives. Larijani also emphasized that a complete resolution of disputes over Iran's nuclear program is a possibility. "There are grounds for resolving Iran's nuclear issue but we don't say it for certain like (IAEA chief) Mr. ElBaradei. But the solution depends on both sides' resolve and we have proved our positive and direct determination," he said in reference to the country's latest initiative to increase cooperation with the UN atomic agency.
Turning to Iraq, he said, "Iraq is still suffering from occupation and terrorism but the latest US report has for the most part ignored the occupation to justify their stay in Iraq." A report prepared by the US Ambassador to Baghdad Ryan Crocker and the commander of all US troops in Iraq General David Petreaus was released on Monday. Larijani warned that the longer the US stays in Iraq, the bigger that country's predicaments would become. Replying to a question on US allegations that Iran is trying to weaken the Iraqi government, the official said that they want to tell such a big lie to make the public to believe it. "We have supported democracy in Iraq since the day they occupied it. Our question is that which one of the regional countries whose names have been mentioned in the report of Mr. Crocker has backed democracy in Iraq?"
