UN Human Rights Expert Says Close Gitmo Short
News The UN’s independent investigator on human rights in the fight against terrorism, Martin Scheinin has called for the closure of the Guantanamo Bay prison camp in Cuba. Scheinin, in his latest report says the US should trial or release people detained under the condition of “unlawful enemy combatants” and that military commissions should be abolished. A US Defence Department spokesman on Guantanamo said "While we have
stated our desires to close Guantanamo, it would be irresponsible to release
these dangerous men into the general population."
