UPDATE: Status of NAU State Resolutions

The fact that over 1/3 of the state legislatures introduced resolutions opposing the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP), the NAFTA Superhighway, and the developing North American Union (NAU), is a success in that of itself. And when state legislators began moving the resolutions forward for debate and floor vote, supporters of the legislation became very optimistic, which may have prompted other states to introduce similar legislation.

Below is an update on the status of the NAU resolutions introduced at the state level as of May 3, 2007:

• Georgia: S.R. 124 failed to pass the third reading on April 19, preventing the legislation from coming to a floor vote for the remainder of the congressional year.
• Georgia: H.R. 858 was introduced in the House by Representatives Benton, Bearden, Franklin, Graves, Scott and Meadows. The resolution was assigned to the House Committee on Interstate Cooperation.
• Colorado: H.R. 7 has been "Postponed Indefinitely," and cannot be reintroduced until the next congressional year.
• Oklahoma: S.C.R. 10 was transmitted to the House on April 24, after it was successfully passed in the Senate.
• Tennessee: S.J.R. 88 successfully passed in the Senate on April 26 and has since been assigned to the House Committee on Commerce for further consideration.
