NO2ID: gold standard to bog standard Politics.co.uk | March 16 2006 Civil liberty and privacy campaigners this morning ridiculed the Home Office’s ‘bad news day’ announcement that ID cards will use a PIN number rather than biometrics for many transactions. Phil Booth, NO2ID’s National Coordinator, said: “So the Home Office’s ‘gold standard’ of identity is to be little more than a bog standard chip and PIN card. Identity theft will become as easy as a glance over your shoulder. “After all its overblown claims about the infallibility of biometrics and how highly secure its ID system will be, it turns out our identities are to be protected by nothing more than a four digit PIN. The Home Office may as well give away all our personal data to organised criminals and fraudsters, who will always target the weakest point in a system. “The Government lied about ID cards being voluntary, now it turns out they’ve been lying about making them secure. They’ll fob the public off with anything just so long as they get to build their Big Brother database.” --------------------------------------------------- Please help our fight against the New World Order by giving a donation.
