THE US Air Force and the Japan Air Self Defense Force are conducting two weeks of military exercises at Andersen Air Force Base in this US territory.

This year's Cope North bilateral exercises mark the first time that Japan's F-2 jet fighters are participating in drills outside of Japan, The Associated Press reported.

The purpose of the exercises is to provide a venue for bilateral cooperation and to improve capabilities for the defense of Japan.

They began Monday and will continue the exercises for two weeks.

Guam is located 3,700 miles (5,950 kilometers) southwest of Hawaii.
