US pretext for prolonged occupation Press

Commenting on a probable US onslaught against Iran, Ali Fallahiyan, now a member of the Assembly of Experts, told Fars news agency that the US is in no condition for staging a military assault against Iran, for it is thoroughly engaged in bringing the situation under control in Iraq and Afghanistan. Fallahiyan said if the international bodies including the International Atomic Energy Agency reveal the facts about Iran's nuclear program, the West would have to stop its continued allegations that Iran's uranium enrichment pose a threat to the global community. The former intelligence minister said ignoring Iran would work to the detriment of the West, adding Iran's influence can help restore peace and stability in the region. Fallahiyan said Iran has friendly ties with its neighbors and seeks solidarity among Muslims, but the West opposes unity among Islamic countries.
He noted that the success of negotiations with US over Iraq would depend on the US attitude toward issues brought up in the talks. "The question of whether or not we can be optimistic of the outcomes will also depend on who will represent the Islamic Republic in the talks. Our representative should be capable of bringing up issues that help detente," he stated.
