Rove Escapes Charges in CIA Leak Investigation Freddie Mooche / AXcess News | June 14 2006 White House political strategist Karl Rove is not going to be charged in the Valerie Plame CIA leak case for telling federal prosecutors the truth. The news was probably as much a relief to President Bush as it was to Rove himself as the Bush administration didn't need any more scandal. Patrick Fitzgerald, the special counsel in charge of the investigation, told Rove's attorney that he did not anticipate charging Karl Rove. Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin, told reporters, "We believe that the Special Counsel's decision should put an end to the baseless speculation about Mr Rove's conduct." He also stated that no more public comments would be made on the case in regards to Karl Rove. Fitzgerald did not comment on Luskin's statement about Rove. After giving testimony five times to the grand jury investigating the CIA White House leak, Rove finally admitted that he spoke to reporters. Up until the time the White House was denying that any senior aides were involved in leaking Plame's name to the press. No one has yet to be charged by Figerald's office for leaking Plame's name. Only Lewis "Scooter" Libby has been charged for obstructing justice. Libby, the former Chief of Staff to the Vice President, was charged last year with five counts of obstruction of justice, perjury and making false statements during the CIA leak investigation. The only official to face any charges, Libby plead not guilty and is set to go on trial in January. With the CIA leak probe behind him, Rove is now free to focus on the Republican elections in November. Rove told Republicans during a New Hampshire speech on Monday that Democrats were profoundly wrong in their approach to Iraq, and warned that a Democratic victory in November would lead to higher taxes, bigger government and bigger deficits. The Democrats wasted no time in going on the attack against Rove while coming to his defense, Ken Mehlman, chairman of the Republican National Committee said, "They owe Karl Rove an apology. They took this good man and they prejudged him." Democrats had been attacking Rove's credibility while potential charges hung over the political advisor's career, but now that Rove is not to be charged, Democrats wasted no time in finding a new direction. "The prosecutor's decision not to indict Karl Rove does not diminish the fact that Karl Rove was involved in leaking the identity of an intelligence operative during a time of war. Karl Rove does not belong in the White House," said Howard Dean. The Democrat National Committee issued a new press release right behind Dean's statement, accusing Rove of recycling "old political attacks" and employing smear tactics by misrepresenting Democratic policies on Iraq. The Democrats found that their "culture of corruption" campaign against the White House was out of play and showed their new focus would be to beat the Iraq involvement instead when they began their new election tactic against the GOP. --------------------------------------------------- Prison Planet.tv: The Premier Multimedia Subscription Package: Download and Share the Truth!
