I Didn't Shoot Brother

London Mirror / Susie Boniface | June 11 2006

FREED terror suspect Abdul Koyair Kalam last night insisted: "I didn't shoot my brother." Koyair, speaking just hours after being released by detectives following the dawn raid on his home in Forest Gate, East London, denied reports that he was the accidental cause of the single shot that hit his brother in the shoulder in the swoop.

Koyair told a friend: "You know me, I'm not a terrorist, I'm not going to do anything stupid, and I certainly didn't shoot my own brother." Koyair, 20, and his brother Kahar, 23, enjoyed their first full day of freedom yesterday after being freed without charge on Friday night.

The parents of the two brothers now want a personal apology from London's police chief. Abdul and Alifjan Kalam want Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair to visit them and explain the 4am raid nine days ago which they say has left the family in turmoil.

They were taken from their home, along with their daughter, and kept in a hotel while their house was searched by officers who had "credible intelligence" that it contained a chemical suicide vest which could kill thousands. Nothing was found in the raid.

Family friend Lutfur Rahman Sayed said: "They have all been devastated by what has happened and want an apology."
