Park Board Considering Surveillance Cameras Terre Haute is looking to improve security in city parks. After recent crimes of vandalism and lewd acts, the parks board is considering adding security guards or additional lighting as well as surveillance cameras. Greg Ruark believes his fellow parks board members are in favor of electronic security, despite concerns from neighbors and other parks departments: "There are never any guarantees that it`s going to work. I`ve talked to park directors that have had great success with security systems and others who have said it`s had no effect on their vandalism and security issues. So, those are the decisions we have to weigh as we move forward," says Ruark, of the Terre Haute Parks & Recreation. Ruark believes some kind of electronic security system will be installed in larger city parks by the end of this year or next spring. But the parks board will ask the community for feedback before finalizing its capital improvements budget plan this summer. ---------------------------------------------------
