School testing GPS tracking system on bus There is another set of eyes watching your kids if you send them to South Glens Falls Schools. A new GPS tracking system is being tested on one district bus. It allows school officials to monitor where the school bus is and who is on it. Superintendent Dr. James McCarthy said, "Parents want to know where their kids are, by the time they leave their home, by the time they return. When you're driving one of these yellow submarines, it's incumbent upon us to be able to respond to parents effectively." Nextel said the full package costs about $5,000 per bus. This is just a trial run. The school board will have to approve all the buses being outfitted. Currently, no other Upstate New York school system has this technology. It is already being used in bigger cities like Hartford and Newark, New Jersey. |
