| Vast DNA database helps solve only one in 150 crimes UK
Daily Mail Britain's huge database of DNA solves only one in every 150 crimes despite it being the largest in the world. Police admitted yesterday that having more than 5.5million individuals registered on the database is not solving large numbers of cases. Of 4.9million offences reported to the police last year, only 33,000 - or 0.67 per cent - were solved thanks to a direct match with a stored profile, West Midlands Chief Constable Chris Sims told to the Commons home affairs select committee. But he insisted some very high profile criminals had been caught by a match on the database, such as the Suffolk strangler, Steve Wright.
