Google China bans jokes and booze

The Inquirer | January 27 2006

US HACKS outraged that Google China censors content in line with dictates from Beijing mandarins have composed a lists of things that the Chinese authorities have demanded that the search engine can’t find.
Fairly obviously dissident views about the Chinese government are blocked, but apparently so are pages related to teen pregnancy, homosexuality, dating, beer and jokes.

News.com have produced a list of banned sites. These include news.bbc.co.uk, bacardi.com, badpuppy.com, bignews.org, collegehumor.com, date.com and not surprisingly pressfreedom.com.

However our Chinese readers will be relieved to know that despite the INQ’s frequent references to booze, its sense of humour and its anti-authoritarian views, it is still listed by Google China. At least this week.
