Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu will be asked to form the next Israeli government, the president's office says.
The right-wing leader will meet the head of state to receive a formal invitation to put together an administration, according to the office of President Shimon Peres.
Mr Netanyahu will have six weeks to forge a ruling coalition.
