Teacher jailed for confronting youths with a pellet gun admits two charges of misconduct

A teacher who was jailed for confronting youths with a pellet gun has admitted unacceptable professional conduct.

At a disciplinary hearing, Linda Walker, 50, accepted two of three charges linked to the incident in August 2004, which led to her being jailed for six months for possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and affray.

Mrs Walker, of Holly House Drive, Urmston, Manchester, was convicted in March 2005 of discharging the gun near one teenager's feet after her family had suffered months of crime and vandalism.

She is now facing a General Teaching Council (GTC) committee in Birmingham, which was deciding whether to ban her from teaching.

Mrs Walker admitted to the committee that she had shouted abuse at the boys and had gone back into her house to fetch an air pistol.

She also admitted that she had discharged the air pistol at least once before leaving the house.

But Mrs Walker's lawyer, Cliff Anderson, told the hearing she disputed a third allegation that she fired at least two pellets at the ground near one of the boys' feet.

When asked of the other two allegations, "do you admit the facts admitted amount to unacceptable professional conduct", she replied: "Yes".
