Surveillance Cameras Going Up In Designated Areas City
News If you live in Malvern, Jane and Finch, or party in the Entertainment District, your every move could soon be captured on tape. Those three areas will soon be sporting police cameras. The decision came after several months of pondering the prospects of permanent public surveillance in Toronto. The push for cameras gained ground after the tragic Boxing Day shootout on Yonge St., that resulted in the death of teenager Jane Creba. That led to a pilot project by Toronto police, who installed cameras in the same area over the Christmas holidays, only to take them down about two months ago. But now they're going up for good in the aforementioned areas. The eyes in the sky will begin their unblinking observations in April. "It's another tool for us to try and help to deter crime," said Supt. Jeff McGuire Toronto Police/CCTV Project Manager. There will be 15 cameras in total, but the exact street locations have not been decided. Residents like Carol Bright think the cameras are a good idea. "At nighttime we cannot go out and take our children for a walk because they're doing drug dealings so we'd like to take back our streets at night." --------------------------------------------------- Prison Planet.tv: The Premier Multimedia Subscription Package: Download and Share the Truth!
