Big Brother Camden is watching out for you

Ham & High | February 24 2006

A BUSYBODY council snooper phoned the Home Office after spotting possessions left in a car.

Helen Marcus, who lives in Glenilla Road, Belsize Park, has accused Camden Council of invading her privacy after she received a letter from the ministry's vehicle crime reduction unit last month.

It said: "A local warden recently noticed you had left some belongings on view in your car."

The furious former chairwoman of the Heath and Hampstead Society wrote to the council to complain.

It replied: "Leaving something in a car is, in our opinion, as good as welcoming thieves to break in and take it."

Ms Marcus said: "Is the next logical step to order me not to leave furniture lying around in my house in case a potential thief peers through my windows and is provoked to break in?
