Abuse of Holy Quran at Gitmo Bay had US sanction, says a new UN Report A UN report prepared on the situation in the Guantanamo Bay prison has said that the interrogation techniques that involved the degradation of certain religions were authorised by the US government. The report, compiled by five independent experts (including Pakistans Asma Jehangir) who act as monitors for the UN Human Rights Commission, said that in at least five cases, American guards stepped on or kicked the Holy Quran, either intentionally or unintentionally. The US government admitted the occurrence of the incidents in its reply to a UN communication. It further said that the US treatment of war on terror detainees at the naval base in Cuba violated their rights to physical and mental health and in some cases amounted to torture and urged the immediate closure of the prison, reported the Daily Times. The UNs Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, Asma Jahangir, investigated and prepared the chapter that details the violations of inmates religious rights and freedoms. The report also revealed that some detainees were subjected to treatment specifically designed to offend their religious sensitivities - such as not being allowed to wash at prayer times and the forced shaving of facial hair - for interrogation purposes. --------------------------------------------------- Get Alex Jones and Paul Joseph Watson's books, ALL Alex's documentary films, films by other authors, audio interviews and special reports.
