Animal Rights Activists Want NRA Labeled 'Domestic Terrorist Group'
Animal rights activists have launched a petition demanding the Obama White House declare the National Rifle Association to be a "domestic terrorist group," while decimating the ability of Americans to exercise their hunting rights.
The petition, which features on the We The People section of the White House.gov website, states;
The petition is being promoted by numerous animal rights activists on social networks like Twitter and Facebook.
The NRA is an ardent supporter of hunting rights, running a website devoted to the issue and regularly promoting hunting as "a vital part of American culture" and a cornerstone of the Second Amendment.
According to an NRA fact sheet on hunting, "The efforts of hunters as conservationists over the last century have restored America's game populations and enhanced the habitat of numerous wildlife species." The document cites polls that consistently show a clear majority of Americans support hunting.
"If we can't have the common decency to live and let live we are a waste of space, and its time to "Get Off The Earth," wrote George Sequoia in support of the petition.
"EXACTLY RIGHT! THESE EVIL NON-SOUL HUMANS ARE TERRORIST NEEDING TO BE GONE!," added Jacqueline Conquest.
The petition currently has 458 signatures and is a long way short of the 25,000 required to receive an official response from the White House.
The NRA has not been short of publicity in the last couple of days. After NBC Sports anchor Bob Costas blamed Jovan Belcher's murder-suicide on the "gun culture," Kansas City sportswriter Jason Whitlock went further, claiming that "the NRA is the new KKK" because they are "arming....black youths" and "loading up our community with drugs, and then just having an open shooting gallery."
