Marines do mock execution of child looter
WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. marines were investigated for conducting mock executions of suspected child looters in Iraq last year, according to documents released Tuesday.
The documents, released by the Department of Defense in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by the ACLU, detail the results of investigations by the Naval Criminal Investigation Service.
"Ordered four juvenile Iraqi looters to kneel beside two shallow ... holes and a pistol was discharged to conduct a mock execution," reads the summary of one case. The charges were withdrawn, the summary states, without giving a reason.
Other cases that resulted in short periods of confinement
or loss of pay for those convicted include incidents in which detainees
were electrocuted, burned or made to kneel handcuffed for up to 24 hours.
