German Company to chip US passports EFY News Network | August 22 2006 Infineon Technologies, a Germany based company will be providing the electronic RFID chips that will be used in the new U.S. passports. The RFID chips digitally store each passport holder's basic information, such as the individual's name, date of birth and photograph. Financial terms and the size of the
contract were not disclosed by the company sources but the government
expects to begin distribution of the first RFID-enabled passports later
in this year.About 15 million passports will be distributed in the first
year alone as per the government plans.
